A Hydrothermal Problem with Non-smooth Lagrangian

چکیده
This paper deals with the optimization of a hydrothermal problem that considers a non-smooth Lagrangian L(t, z, z′). We consider a general case where the functions Lz′ (t, ·, ·) and Lz(t, ·, ·) are discontinuous in {(t, z, z′)/z′ = φ(t, z)}, which is the borderline point between two power generation zones. This situation arises in problems of optimization of hydrothermal systems where the thermal plant input-output curve considers the shape of the cost curve in the neighborhood of the valve points. The problem shall be formulated in the framework of nonsmooth analysis, using the generalized (or Clarke’s) gradient. We shall obtain a necessary minimum condition and we shall generalize the known result (smooth transition) that the derivative of the minimum presents a constancy interval. Finally, we shall present an example.

متن کاملSolving Environmental/Economic Power Dispatch Problem by a Trust Region Based Augmented Lagrangian Method
This paper proposes a Trust-Region Based Augmented Method (TRALM) to solve a combined Environmental and Economic Power Dispatch (EEPD) problem. The EEPD problem is a multi-objective problem with competing and non-commensurable objectives. The TRALM produces a set of non-dominated Pareto optimal solutions for the problem. Fuzzy set theory is employed to extract a compromise non-dominated sol...
متن کاملSolving the Hydrothermal Unit Commitment Problem via Lagrangian Relaxation and Augmented Lagrangian
This paper considers the hydrothermal unit commitment problem of power systems with high proportion of hydraulic generation. In this sense, a large-scale mixed-integer nonlinear programming problem for the two day cost-optimal generation of system is developed. The model involves a large number of mixed-integer decision variables and constraints linking time periods and operation units. A Lagra...

This paper addresses the short-term scheduling problem of hydrothermal power systems, which results in a large-scale mixed-integer nonlinear programming problem. The objective consists in minimizing the operation cost over a two-day horizon with a one-hour time resolution. To solve this difficult problem, a Lagrangian Relaxation LR based on variable splitting is designed where the resulting dua...
متن کاملNumerical Solution of a Variational Problem Arising in Stress Analysis : the Vector Case
In this article, we discuss the numerical solution of a constrained minimization problem arising from the stress analysis of elasto-plastic bodies. This minimization problem has the flavor of a generalized non-smooth eigenvalue problem, with the smallest eigenvalue corresponding to the load capacity ratio of the elastic body under consideration. An augmented Lagrangian method, together with fin...
